Ottawa Senators Sign Francis Perron to Entry-Level Contract

The QMJHL prospect is about to captain his team into the playoffs on the strength of his most productive season to date

The Ottawa Senators announced Tuesday afternoon that they had signed prospect Francis Perron to an entry-level contract. Perron, a 7th-round pick (190th overall) in the 2014 NHL draft, is currently in his fourth season with the Québec Major Junior Hockey League's Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. He has served as the team's captain this season. He currently has 41 goals and 66 assists for 107 points in 61 games, good enough for second in the QMJHL. He has 256 points in 250 career major junior games.

At 6'0" and 165 lbs, the 19-year-old will likely still have to fill out his frame before he can be a consistent junior contributor. Still, his scoring touch should not be understated. Now that he's signed an ELC, he will likely begin next year in the AHL and Sens fans will start to get an idea of his scoring abilities at the professional level.

If Perron ends up playing NHL games, he will join a rising number of late-round picks that have played pro hockey with the organization. Mark Stone (6th round, 2010), Mike Hoffman (5th round, 2009), Jean-Gabriel Pageau (4th round, 2011), Max McCormick (6th round, 2011), and Ryan Dzingel (7th round, 2011) have all spent a number of games with the big club this year. Perron would add to what is becoming an impressive drafting record.

Financial details of the deal were not immediately available.
