Ottawa Senators Select Jakov Novak 188th Overall

Sens select another college-bound player

With the 188th overall pick, the Ottawa Senators have selected forward Jakov Novak from the Janesville Jets in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

Novak, a 6-foot-3 left-winger from Riverside, Ontario was passed over in both the 2016 and 2017 drafts, but saw his production explode this year. He played in the U.S. high school system for his draft year, and had a paltry 28 points in 52 games with Janesville in 2016-17. This season, as an assistant captain, Novak led the NAHL in scoring with 73 points (32G, 41A) in 56 games (1.30 PPG).

To our knowledge, Novak wasn’t ranked by many of the scouting services or prominent bloggers. He was ranked 214th by Central Scouting (North American skaters). As a tier II league that Ottawa is familiar with after picking Todd Burgess — also the league’s leading scorer and an overager with 95 points in 60 games — in 2016, expect Novak to spend three or four years at Bentley University (AHA).
