Ottawa Senators Rookie Tournament: Details and open thread

Your need-to-know thread, right here!

The 2018 rookie tournament gets underway on Friday, September 7th in Laval. The Senators’ rookies will be going head to head against the Canadiens’ and Maple Leafs’ rookies. The first game wil be between the Sens and Habs at 7 p.m. on Friday, with the Sens then playing the Leafs at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and the Habs and Leafs closing it out at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Last year, the Sens went undefeated in the three-team tournament, so let’s see if they can keep up the result this year. Here are the rosters for the tournament:

Goalies: Filip Gustavsson, Jordan Hollett, Kevin Mandolese

Defencemen: Jonathan Aspirot*, Charles-Edouard D’Astous*, Macoy Erkamps, Christian Jaros, Maxime Lajoie, Brady Lyle*, Nicolas Mattinen**, Chase Stewart*, Christian Wolanin

Forwards: Drake Batherson, Logan Brown, Filip Chlapik, Luka Burzan*, Alex Formenton, Parker Kelly, Boston Leier, Aaron Luchuk, Robert (Bobby) Lynch*, Gregor MacLeod, Ryan Scarfo, Jordan Stallard***, Andrew Sturtz, Brady Tkachuk, Colin White

*undrafted rookie
**Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick
***Winnipeg Jets draft pick

If you’re looking to watch the game, there’s not much we can say right now. TSN 1200 is doing a radio broadcast of the Saturday game, but not the Friday game (due to there being a RedBlacks game at a similar time). Last year, SensTV broadcast one of the games with no notice, so you can try checking it out close to game time to see if anything’s up. LeafsTV and HabsTV have been known to do the same, so make sure to check those out too. Rogers channel 22 is NOT doing a broadcast this year as far as we know, so that’s out as an option.

UPDATE: According to the RDS website, RDS Info will be running both of the Sens’ rookie tournament games. Thanks to reader Silver(Seven)Surfer for pointing this out.

Make sure to stop by here and remember two things:
1) this is a meaningless rookie tournament, so it’ll be hard to draw strong conclusions about how good or bad any player is
2) this is the first hockey action in months, so don’t fight your instinct to overreact; embrace it!
