Ottawa Senators re-call Fredrik Claesson and Max McCormick from Binghamton

The team also announced Craig Anderson will be out for tonight’s game

When the Ottawa Senators returned Thomas Chabot to junior on Wednesday, the team was left with exactly 12 forwards and 6 defencemen, one of whom, Mark Stone, has been dealing with lingering injury troubles. The trade later-the-same-day for goaltender Mike Condon brought the Sens back to 21 players, but still left the team vulnerable in case of injury. The team rectified that this morning, bringing defenceman Fredrik Claesson and forward Max McCormick up from Binghamton.

Claesson, 23, played his first 16 career NHL games last season as a call-up with the Sens, scoring two assists while often being paired with Erik Karlsson. Most expected him to be the seventh defenceman out of the gate. Max McCormick, 24, was a college teammate of current Senator Ryan Dzingel. He played the first 20 games of his NHL career last season, notching two goals and two assists along with 37 penalty minutes. Many wondered if he was going to make the team out of training camp, but strong camps by Tom Pyatt and Phil Varone pushed him back to Binghamton.

The team also announced that goaltender Craig Anderson has gone back on leave. As theorized by former site manager A, the trade for Mike Condon was to create an environment in which Anderson was comfortable to leave the team to be with his wife. According to Bruce Garrioch, Condon will start tonight.
