The Week in Review:

Friday, October 9th, 2010
Game 1: Binghamton 5, Adirondack 1

Notes:

• Tim Spencer and Francis Lessard did their best Hanson brothers impressions very early as they opened up the year with a double fight. And it was awesome!
  
• Patrick Wiercioch scored a pretty first professional goal: Wide open, he nailed a sniper bullet right to the top of net. As Pete would say "How do you leave a sniper like that open?"
• At least the powerplay is clicking for one of the Senators teams. In fact, the special teams in general were fantastic for Binghamton, working some solid PK and killing a huge 5-on-3 disadvantage.
• Mike Brodeur wasn't really tested much. He gave up some rebounds that could have been goals, but lucky for him, the Phantoms failed to take advantage. In the third period, one of his defenders accidentally took him down on a breakaway. He was able to walk off the ice and required only some stitches.
• Andre Benoit says Mike Hoffman has "disgusting hands."

Game 2: Norfolk 7, Binghamton 4

Notes:

• Tough loss for Binghamton, they allowed six goals in the second period. Even tougher on Barry Brust, who made some good saves in the first and third periods.
  
• Beware the power of the mullet! Jim O'Brien had two goals in this game and now leads the team with three. I know it's only been two games, but O'Brien has really stepped it up.
• Eric Gryba has been a healthy scratch for the first two games. Remain clam, there's still 78 games left. However Robin Lehner has his visa and is expected to practice on Thursday. It begins, now!
  
• The passing from this team is a huge improvement from last year. This team is talking to one-another, making great shots, and playing with a lot of heart. Give them a few more games, and the chemistry between lines is going to be terrific.
  

ECHL

The Jackals season hasn't started yet, but they made two moves recently. The first was acquiring forward Oren Eizenman from the Stockton Thunder for future considerations. Eizenman was Stockton's 3rd leading scorer after playing 61 games and scoring 59 points (21G/38A) and was the top scorer during the Thunder's playoff run with 19 points (3G/16A).

The second was signing defenseman Patrick Coulombe and forward Michael Dubuc and trading forward Maxime Tanguay to the Alaska Aces for future considerations. Coulombe played 7 games for the Vancouver Canucks in the 2006-07 season scoring only 1 point (an assist). He spent the last four years playing with the Victoria Salmon Kings scoring 81 points (23G/58A), and led the team in plus-minus the last two seasons with +14 last season and +20 the year before. He was invited to the Binghamton Senators camp, and was well liked by head coach Kurt Kleinendorst. Michael Dubuc spent the last two seasons in the Washington Capitals organization playing with both the South Carolina Stingrays and Hershey Bears. He had been practicing with team under a tryout agreement.
