One Year Later

Some reflections on the one-year anniversary of becoming site manager

It was exactly a year ago that I took over the managing role on this site. I remember taking over while we were all still on the high of the Sens' push to the playoffs, excited for the future. It's safe to say that the last season didn't go as well as we'd hoped, but it's still been a lot of fun being here at Silver Seven.

I just wanted to take a moment to reflect back on the last year. I'm still humbled that I've been given this opportunity. I definitely haven't played the game at any meaningful level. I have no journalism background. I can't dig into the numbers or explain strategy with accessibility like some writers, many of whom work for this site. I'd also only been part of the staff here for a year. I think part of why it still surprises me is that there are many great Sens blogs out there, but Silver Seven was my favourite since I discovered Sens blogs. I can still remember the first piece I read: Peter's hilarious super-cynical argument that the NHL should introduce bubble tops on its arenas to improve games.

I'm thankful for the great staff we have here. I'm continually impressed by the quality and quantity of articles we put out. The effort level (yes, I'm citing effort level) of the writers here is top-notch.

But I think the biggest thank you, as cheesy as it sounds, has to go to you, the readers. If nobody read this site, we wouldn't still write. The debates in the comments spur future ideas for articles. And I love writing for a community of people who all want the same thing: for the Sens to win. At the bottom of it, we're all here because we want the Sens to win so desperately, even if we disagree as to how that could happen. It makes running this site so worth it.

So thank you to everyone who's helped over the last year, and here's to a great year both for the blog and for the Sens!

Not everyone can afford to pay for sports coverage right now, and that is why we will keep as much of the site's content free for as long as we can.
