The league has meted out the penalty to the Ottawa Senators for their role in the failed Vegas-Anaheim Dadonov trade, and it is a first round pick.

The Sens will have the option of forfeiting their 2024, 2025 or 2026 first round pick. They have 24 hours after each year's draft lottery to make the decision on that year's pick.

Past detailing the punishment, the league's statement - and stop me if you've heard this one recently - does not go into any detail of what went into the decision. Officially the league has said they "will have no further comment on the matter" but if any details leak out, we will update this story.

As the possibility was discussed this morning, this will mark the end of Pierre Dorion's time in Ottawa per Elliott Friedman (and Frank Seravalli, and Bruce Garrioch, et Sylvain St-Laurent). The Senators will be holding a press conference at 3:15 this afternoon to announce the change.
