News & Notes: Injuries, Injuries and More Injuries

Ceci, Dzingel and Formenton were all placed on the injured reserve.

If you were hoping for some positive news about the Sens, this isn’t it. The injury ninja has struck early, as a slew of injuries have hit both the Ottawa and Belleville Senators.

For the NHL team, the trio of Cody Ceci, Ryan Dzingel and Alex Formenton have been placed on the injured reserve, joining Marian Gaborik and Jean-Gabriel Pageau on the sidelines. Ceci’s injury is described as upper-body, while Dzingel is dealing with a lower-body injury. Rookie Alex Formenton is the most concerning, as he’s dealing with a concussion following a hit from Wednesday’s game the Flyers.

Being placed on the injured reserve means the player is ineligible to play for the next seven days, which is convenient considering the team has a four-day break after their next two contests against Los Angeles and Dallas. Hopefully they’ll be ready in time to face the Habs on October 20th, although proper healing time will be their top priority.

In their place, the Sens have recalled forward Nick Paul and defenceman Christian Jaros. Ben Harpur and Paul Carey are already on the NHL roster, waiting as healthy scratches to get into their first game. Guy Boucher will make the decision tomorrow whether to play eleven forwards and seven defencemen or go with the traditional 12-6, although the guarantee is Ben Harpur will play.

The Belleville Senators have also been dealing with a handful of injuries to key players, ahead of their road trip to Manitoba. First, Marcus Hogberg has been dealing with a “little tweak” according to Pierre Dorion, which prompted the promotion of Filip Gustavsson from ECHL Brampton to Belleville.

Forwards Logan Brown and Ben Sexton also won’t be joining the team on the trip, as Brown, who has already dealt with a handful of injuries over his short career, will be out for two weeks per Dorion. Sexton’s injury details and timeline are unknown.
