Monday LNN: Team Canada Upgrades, Extensions and More
Monday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- The World Championships are set to begin today and Team Canada is getting a huge boost as Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon have announced their participation in the tournament. It has been 10 years since Crosby last participated in the World Championship so this should be exciting to watch.
- Frederik Andersen will head into the second round against the Washington Capitals with something less on his mind. The Carolina Hurricanes announced this weekend that they have extended the veteran goaltender for another year.
- Mike Sullivan didn’t stay on the market for long; the former Penguins bench boss has landed a new job with a familiar foe. Sticking to his preference to remain in the East, Sullivan is now headed to New York as the new head coach of the Rangers.
- The NHL has officially released the second round schedule, starting with the Panthers sweep of the Leafs on Monday, with the remaining series expected to start on Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Speaking of second-round action, how about that Game 7 in Winnipeg? The Jets pulled off some late-game magic, scoring twice in the final two minutes to force overtime. Adam Lowry became the hero of the century, burying the game-winner in double OT to punch their ticket to Round 2.
- The Calgary Flames may not be in the playoffs, but they have been busy in their offseason so far. The team announced the signing of 22-year-old Matt Coronato to a 7-year deal worth $6.5 million AAV.
