Monday Links, News and Notes: Canada Pulls Out of the Olympics

Plus a list of some things to do for Sens fans.

With the entire world of sports postponed with no timeline to return in sight, here are some links, news and notes to keep you filled in on what’s going on, as well as some resources to maybe help you pass some of your new found spare time.

  • The biggest news of the weekend comes from the Canadian Olympic committee, who announced that they’ll be pulling all Canadian athletes from the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. They’re the first country to do so, citing the public health risks of large gatherings during this pandemic. Canadian athletes have on the whole been very receptive of the decision, as tough as it may be to miss an opportunity they’ve been working for their entire lives. But with other countries such as Australia also preparing to bow out, it only seems like a matter of time before the games are either postponed or cancelled.
  • We’ve already been waiting a while for some advancement on what the new Seattle NHL franchise will look like, and it appears the pandemic won’t be delaying it further. ESPN reported that they’re considering revealing the name and look of the team while we’re all social distancing, with advance ticket sales potentially being online-only.
  • The Sens Foundation began their auction on St. Patrick’s Day themed gear, including signed pucks and Irish-named player jerseys./

Ways to Pass the Time

Some things to do for Sens fans looking to kill a little bit of time.

  • For those looking to test their Sens trivia knowledge, a fan created a Kahoot quiz that was played live earlier this week, but is still available for replay using this PIN in the Kahoot app.
  • Similarly, Kevin Lee created a Kahoot quiz for Sens autographs, which was surprisingly difficult. You can find his thread of answers here.
  • If you were also wondering how the rest of the Sens’ season would’ve played out, Finnigan’s Ghost has you covered, virtually live streaming the rest of the team’s schedule on Twitch — so far they’ve won 9-7 against the Blackhawks and lost 5-2 to the Blues. Follow Finn on Twitter to know when he’s going live next.
  • Scheduling is unclear at the moment, but it looks like TSN 1200 will be re-broadcasting some of the iconic Sens games from the past decade.
  • Lastly, if you haven’t already, make sure to get your ballot in for the Sens Prospect Awards, which close at the end of the week./
