Matt Puempel placed on waivers

Also, Andrew Hammond cleared waivers yesterday

News emerged today that Matt Puempel is the latest Senators player to be placed on waivers. This comes following Puempel having no points in 13 games this season. Puempel got a longer look than most would in his position, being a first-round pick who required waivers. Puempel also had 30 points in 34 AHL games last year, meaning he was due for a long look at the NHL level.

Puempel is the lone first-round pick (24th overall) remaining with the Sens’ organization from the much-heralded 2011 draft. Mika Zibanejad (6th) and Stefan Noesen (21st) have both been traded. Additionally, second-round pick Shane Prince was traded last season. The later picks from this draft have still worked out for the Sens, with Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Fredrik Claesson, Max McCormick, and Ryan Dzingel all featuring with the big club this season.

In other waiver news, Andrew Hammond cleared waivers and will be re-assigned to Binghamton. This means he will be available for a call-up later in the year should the Sens require him.
