Josh Norris Voted AHL’s Outstanding Rookie

He is the first Sens prospect to win the award.

After a spectacular rookie season in the American Hockey League, Josh Norris has been recognized for his play once again, today winning the Dudley “Red” Garrett Memorial Award, as the league’s Outstanding Rookie.

With 31 goals and 30 assists over 56 games, the 21 year-old led all AHL rookies in points, and finished third in the league’s scoring race, to go with being named a First Team All-Star,  as well as an All-Rookie nod. This comes a year after Norris underwent a major shoulder surgery, that sidelined him for the the second half of his final NCAA season at Michigan.

In a statement issued by the team, Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion said of Norris;

“On behalf of the entire organization, I want to express a profound congratulations to Josh Norris on winning the Red Garrett Memorial Award...Not only does this signify a testament to Josh’s hard work, but having it voted upon by his peers is an additional accomplishment. With an outstanding combination of speed, skill and competitiveness every time he steps on the ice, Josh is a deserving winner of this prestigious award.”

The Oxford, Michigan native also suited up for three games in Ottawa, this season, showing some obvious chemistry with longtime friend Brady Tkachuk, as well as Bobby Ryan. Norris is the first Ottawa Senators prospect to ever win the award.

After a dominant campaign, Norris will be a prospect to watch whenever the 2020-2021 season begins, as a player who stands a good chance of making the Ottawa Senators roster.
