Game 6 preview: New Jersey Devils @ Ottawa Senators

A preview of the game between the Ottawa Senators and the New Jersey Devils on 25 October 2014.

After being out of action for a full week due to the shooting on Parliament, the Ottawa Senators will return to action and look for their fifth consecutive win when they host the New Jersey Devils tonight. The Senators have been out-shot in every game so far this season but have managed to have a winning record thanks to great goaltending.

The Senators will go with the same lineup that beat Lumbus last Saturday and Robin Lehner will once again start in net. Here are the lines and pairings for Ottawa courtesy of Nicolas St-Pierre.

Ottawa

MacArthur - Turris - Stone
Ryan - Zibanejad - Chiasson
Hoffman - Legwand - Neil
Michalek - Smith - Lazar

Some notes for tonight:

  • This is the third consecutive game the Senators will face a backup goalie and the second straight where they catch the opponent on the second game of a back-to-back. UPDATE: Cory Schneider will start agian.
  • The Senators have allowed at least 30 shots in every game so far this season. They have allowed exactly 40 in both of Robin Lehner's appearances. Lehner stopped 38 shots in each game.
  • It has been exactly two weeks since Jared Cowen last played for Ottawa.
  • Ottawa has led after the second period in only one of its four victories. They trailed against Colorado and Tampa after two periods and were tied against Lumbus.
  • Erik Karlsson's 4.80 shots/game is fourth in the NHL behind Zach Parise (6.20), Patric Hornqvist (5.67) and Patrick Sharp (5.00). Karlsson is currently on a four-game points streak in which he has 22 shots, coinciding with the club's winning streak. After five games, Karlsson already has 10 more shots than anyone else on the team. Clarke MacArthur is second with 14.
  • Karlsson has over 17% of the team's shots on goal so far this season.
  • Kyle Turris' season opening four game points streak ended against Lumbus. Mika Zibanejad, Milan Michalek and Eric Gryba are the only skaters to have played every game that are still without a point.
  • After starting the season with three straight wins, the Devils have lost four in a row.
  • Before the game, there will be a joint tribute in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal to the soldiers that lost their lives this week.
