Game 33 Preview and Open Thread: Ottawa Senators vs Vancouver Canucks

Looking for another great effort from the Sens

After a near perfect game on Monday night, the Sens are back at it again with the Vancouver Canucks. The Senators did everything they could on Monday and only came out with a point but I can’t say anyone was complaining much. Joey Daccord had another fantastic game and with Murray out with an injury, we may be seeing more of him in the next few games. Pierre Dorion claimed a goalie off wavers today indicating that Daccord should be prepared for a long string of games. Exciting for both him and the fans.

The Vancouver Canucks barely showed up to the last game and I expect them to have a much stronger game tonight. The Sens will need to come out strong to make sure they give no breathing room for the Canucks to get into the game. They can’t have a hot goalie situation twice in a row so if the Sens continue with a high shooting game, they may breakthrough.

Game Notes

  • The Sens are not going to win many games if they keep letting power play opportunities go to waste. With the amount of talent on the PP units, it’s frustrating to see the lack of production.
  • Colin White got his redemption goal last game after being responsible for the goal against in the first period. Thomas Chabot had a horrendous line change which ultimately lead to the Canucks OT winner, should we expect a GWG from Chabot tonight?
  • Stützle and Batherson should never be separated, it’s pure science that they were meant to play together. Now Tierney in between, I don’t know. Is this the best you can do Smith?
  • I have tried defending Gudbranson before, but it’s evident at this point that he is becoming more of a liability every game. He makes plays that make no sense and often ruins the momentum of plays instead of contributing to them.
  • Austin Watson was a questionable acquisition but he has slowly proven that he can still contribute in a big way and his blocked shot last game that hit his neck really earned him more respect.
  • Tim Stützle is losing some ground in the rookie scoring race (7 points off total points and 4 goals off the lead). He has been playing fantastic hockey so the points and the Calder cup are not important but just nice to have. I say it’s time we see a Stützle hat trick, don’t you all agree?
  • You can catch the game tonight at 7PM on Sportsnet, RDS or Listen Live at TSN1200/
