Can the Sens start 2024 on the right foot?

The Ottawa Senators (14-18-0) are looking for a 4th win in their last 5 games tonight against the Vancouver Canucks (23-10-3), who feature the league's top offense and .917 goaltending from both Thatcher Demko and Casey DeSmith.

Anton Forsberg, who oddly enough, seems to play significantly better the more shots he faces, stopped 40 of 41 against the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday and will start in goal tonight against Demko.

Puck drop is set for 10:00 pm EST, and the game is available on RDS2, TSN5, and TSN1200.

Game Notes

  • With the return of Thomas Chabot last game, the Sens have a much more productive back end than they've had in a while. Six blueliners (including temporary winger Erik Brännström) found the scoresheet against Buffalo, and three (Chabot, Jake Sanderson, and Jakob Chychrun) have over 0.5 points per game.
  • Look for Tim Stützle to get on the board after back-to-back pointless games. Ottawa's leading scorer has just 7 goals, but 26 assists in 32 games.
  • Vancouver's production is ridiculous. Brock Boeser has 24 goals in 36 games, and 3 other players are above a point per game. However, they are a somewhat one-line team, with Ilya Mikheyev placing 4th amongst forwards with 20 points in 32 games. Good, but not great.
  • Further to that point, Vancouver's success is mostly predicated on having their superstars (and their goalies) make big plays and surviving when everyone else is on. If the Sens are going to prevail, they'll to keep the top guys (relatively) in check while taking advantage of the Canucks depth
