Game 19: Ottawa Senators @ Calgary Flames
Tonight, the Ottawa Senators will enter the vast unknown that is western Canada. On this most exotic of trips, the Senators will take on the Calgary Flames. There are expected to be no lineup changes with Brian Lee keeping his spot and David Rundblad sits again. Chris Neil is still out and did not travel with the club.
Here are the lines from Sylvain St-Laurent:
Nick Foligno - Stéphane Da Costa - Daniel Alfredsson
Jared Cowen - Brian Lee
Craig Anderson (starter)
Here are tonight's talking points:
- New pairings: Sergei Gonchar and Chris Phillips played together against Toronto and did a pretty good job. This also means Jared Cowen and Brian Lee are paired together, which is a pretty 'meh' pairing. That's alright for the third pairing.
- Karlsson and Gonchar with points: Erik Karlsson has an assist in three straight games and Sergei Gonchar has scored a goal in back-to-back games. The Senators are certainly getting plenty of offence from these two on defence. With the top line cooling off, can these two continue to contribute?
- Consistency from Anderson: Have we seen consecutive solid efforts from Craig Anderson? We might have, but I can't remember any of the top of my head. This is a tough stretch for the Senators and they will need good goaltending.
- Special teams: The power play is still holding strong at third while the penalty kill has improved to 22nd. The Senators have allowed only one goal in their last 22 penalty kills.
Here are the 2011-2012 comparative statistics for the Senators and the Flames:
