Game 16: New York Rangers @ Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators will close out their three-game homestand looking to stop a run of three games without a win. After tonight, the Senators will start on a tough six-game road trip, so starting that with a four-game losing streak would be less than ideal.
Two lineup changes tonight, with Nikita Filatov sent to Binghamton, Zenon Konopka will take his place on the fourth line. The other change will be David Rundblad returning in the place of Brian Lee. This might be a good omen as the Senators have yet to win a game this season without Magic Number Seven (or with Brian Lee).
Here are the lines from James Gordon.
Colin Greening - Jason Spezza - Milan Michalek
Nick Foligno - Stéphane Da Costa - Bobby Butler
Kaspars Daugavins - Zack Smith - Chris Neil
Erik Condra - Zenon Konopka - Jesse Winchester
Filip Kuba - Erik Karlsson
Sergei Gonchar - Jared Cowen
Chris Phillips - David Rundblad
Stats and talking points after the jump.
Here are my talking points:
- Rundblad returns rested: After getting a couple games off, David Rundblad will return to the lineup. According to Paul MacLean, Rundblad needed a bit of a rest so it will be interesting to see if he has some extra jump tonight. Magic Number Seven last played eight days ago in Boston.
- Wolski not playing: Wojtek Wolski won't be playing, so there are no worries of someone doing something stupid to take him out. Still, I hope the Senators focus on winning the game rather than seeking revenge against Marian Gaborik or Brad Richards.
- Power play slowing down, penalty kill improving: The Senators power play has slowed down recently while the penalty kill has improved. Can we get the power play to click and keep the penalty kill improving?
- One-goal games: Since the Senators beat Winnipeg 4-1, seven of their eight games have been one-goal games with the Senators going 5-1-1 in those seven games. Overall, Ottawa is 6-3-1 in one-goal games.
