Game 12 preview: Winnipeg Jets @ Ottawa Senators

A preview of the game between the Ottawa Senators and Winnipeg Jets on 9 February 2013.

The Ottawa Senators dominated the Carolina Hurricanes but were not able to close out the game, dropping a 3-2 decision in overtime on Thursday night. They will be hoping to repeat that performance this afternoon when they host the Winnipeg Jets on Hockey Day in Canada.

It is unclear what the lines will be and whether Patrick Wiercioch will draw in. Craig Anderson also missed practice on Friday and Ben Bishop might be getting a start today. Here are the lines that played against Carolina.

Zibanejad - Turris - Alfredsson
Michalek - Smith - Silfverberg
Greening - Regin - Neil
O'Brien - Da Costa - Condra

Methot - Karlsson
Lundin - Gonchar
Phillips - Benoit

Some notes for today:

  • No complaints about the last game. If the Senators can repeat that performance, they are going to win on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Jets have allowed 18 goals in their last three games away from home. They also won only 14 out of their 41 away games last season. Without the benefit of the Winnipeg crowd, these are still mostly the Thrashers aren't they?
  • Erik Karlsson played a season low 24:59 on Thursday but still managed 11 shots on goal and a total of 18 attempted shots. He has a shot in every game this season and a total of 50 shots, good for first in the NHL.
  • Ottawa had 21 scoring chances 5-on-5 against Carolina while giving up 15. With Karlsson on the ice, Ottawa was up 10-2, but with him off the ice Carolina led 13-11. A bit of a difference isn't it? Not quite a one man team, but where would this team be without him?
  • Kyle Turris has no goals and only five shots in six games since Jason Spezza's injury. He has picked up five assists to give him 10 points in 11 games for the season. Milan Michalek has a goal and an assist since Spezza's injury.
  • Peter Regin and Zack Smith are the only forwards playing for the Senators today without a goal on the season.
