Daniel Alfredsson wins 2012 King Clancy Memorial Trophy

Just when Ottawa fans thought the Sens were going 1 for 3 on the night, we were surprised when Daniel Alfredsson was awarded the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, presented every year since 1988. Named after a member of the original Ottawa Senators, the award goes to the player who has made significant humanitarian contributions to his community. While many didn't realize Alfie was being considered for this award, it couldn't have gone to a better man.

Since joining the Ottawa community in 1995, Alfredsson has been a model citizen - both on and off the ice. His steady leadership has guided the Sens through good times and bad, but he has also left a lasting impression on the city through his work with children's charities and as a spokesperson for mental health in the city. Most recently, he was one of the first NHL players to lend a hand with the You Can Play Project.

A great honour for our captain. It's been an honour having him in our city for 16 years.
