Curtis Lazar lent to Team Canada for World Juniors

Lazar likely to take a big role on the world stage

After a few weeks of will they or won't they, the Senators have announced that Curtis Lazar will be lent to Team Canada for the World Junior Hockey Championship.

Lazar had 3 goals and 4 assists in 7 games last year at the WJHC, and should be able to top that this year. It's also widely expected that he will be given a leadership role on the team, and will quite possibly be wearing the C.

The move could have an impact on the Sens prospect development past Lazar. Nick Paul is considered to be on the bubble, and it is possible that he is the name that gets dropped to make space for Curtis. Alternately, they could both make the team. That could only be a good thing for Paul, even if they don't end up on the ice together in a game situation.

Depending on how well Canada does Lazar will miss five to seven games over the course of the tournament, with an eighth game a possibility if Canada goes all the way and the Sens feels he needs a day of rest before slotting back in to the lineup.

Canada faces Slovakia in their first game of the tournament at 8pm on December 26th, though Lazar will likely play in at least one of the three pre-tournament games over the next 5 days.

Did the Senators make the right choice in lending Curtis Lazar to Team Canada for the WJHC?

Yes, a taste of a bigger role with Team Canada for him will be good long ther382
No, it would be better to keep him in the NHL10
