Colin White signs ATO with Binghamton Senators

The 20-year-old has decided to turn pro

Colin White, the Ottawa Senators’ second 1st-round pick (21st overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, has agreed to a contract. This comes as the Boston College Eagles just barely missed qualifying for the NCAA tournament to determine the Frozen Four. Rather than return for his junior season in 2017-18, White decided to turn pro and will join the Binghamton Senators for the remainder of the season.

White had a phenomenal freshman season, putting up 43 points in 37 games. His draft stock had fallen slightly due to losing a lot of weight due to mono just beforehand, but his rookie college season proved that the Sens’ scouts had seen something worth going after. This year his pace is a little lower, with 33 points in 36 games, but last year BC had a much better team, topping the Hockey East standings and making the Frozen Four. He’s also well-known for his international play. He scored the gold medal-winning OT goal against Finland in the 2015 U18 World Championships. He put up seven points in seven games in the 2016 World Junior Championships, and put up seven goals in seven games in this year’s World Juniors. His leadership was also well on display, since he was an assistant captain on all those aforementioned American teams.

As Trevor discussed a couple weeks ago, White will be able to provide a boost for the organization. He’ll receive big minutes on a struggling Binghamton squad, and will get the chance to work with world-class training staff, and will have committed himself to Ottawa for the foreseeable future. I have a hard time finding downsides to this signing.
