Colin Greening set to play first NHL game
Tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils marks Colin Greening's first NHL game. If the name doesn't seem too familiar, it's because Greening has been one of Ottawa's most under-the-radar prospects since he was picked in the 7th round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. The St. John's, Newfoundland native hasn't received the hype that players like Jared Cowen, Robin Lehner, or David Rundblad have received, but he's having a great season in the AHL this year and it's great to see him get rewarded with a game in the big league to reward him for his efforts.
Greening is actually an AHL rookie this year, having just finished a four year stint with Cornell in the NCAA (where he managed to keep a 3.99 GPA while serving as team captain). This season, he's put 12 goals and 32 points in 48 games with the Binghamton Senators, which has him tied for third in AHL rookie scoring. He's a power forward who plays a smart game and offers a big 6'3", 211lb frame.
