Bryan Murray diagnosed with cancer

The Ottawa Senators GM has been diagnosed with cancer and is seeking treatment. Assistant GMs Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee will take over GM duties as and when needed.

The Ottawa Senators issued a press release this morning stating that GM Bryan Murray has been diagnosed with cancer. He's undergoing further testing and will be receiving treatment immediately.

The press release indicates that Murray will continue to act as GM, although assistant GMs Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee will be responsible for managing the club whenever Murray's treatment requires him to be absent.

Murray, 71, has been Ottawa's general manager since June 2007. Prior to that, he was the Senators head coach during their only Stanley Cup Final appearance. For more details on Murray's lengthy career in hockey, Amelia wrote an excellent piece about him last year.
