Another Game, Another Loss; Sens Fall 3-2 to the Flyers

At least it helps our draft pick...

The Flyers came in tonight in a must win situation, hungry and desperate. The Sens who now play the role of spoilers are also trying to find any motivation to show up to games these days.

The Flyers didn’t come out flying as I would expect a team fighting for its playoff life to be. Full credit to the Sens, they did a very good job containing the offense of the Flyers when they got possession.

I understand the Flyers realize it’s the Sens and this is probably an easy win but not attempting a shot on net for the first 9 minutes of the period is just going too far.

The Sens continued to impress (to their standards) in the period and Andy was looking to be having a very solid game so far. Halfway through the period, Chris Tierney does a fantastic job of keeping the puck in the zone and dictating an entire play that ends up on Harpur’s stick. Shockingly, Harpur manages to not mess up the play and shoots at the net where Tierney was there for the perfect tip-in. 1-0 Sens, FREE FRIES TOMORROW!

Both team exchanged chances but the Flyers remained to look completely not interested in the game even though they outshot the Sens 10-6 after the first period.

The second period started off on a good note with the Sens heading to the power play. While it didn't materialize, fans were hoping it would at least keep the momentum up. On a side note, did you all know Bobby Ryan grew up “across the pond”? Surely, we didn't know that after it’s been mentioned 342 times in the past 6 years or so.

The good note didn’t last long as not even three minutes in, the Flyers tie the game on a deflection by Oskar Lindblom. Huge credit to Mark Borowiecki and Ben Harpur on doing absolutely nothing to defend the pass or help Andy see the play.

Sens kill a Flyers penalty where Chabot just looked like the superstar that he is. The highlight of the period for the Sens must be that poke check from DeMelo on the Flyers breakaway. The Flyers were putting up more pressure as the period went on but the Sens seemed to be holding their ground.

Bobby Ryan grew up in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

The Sens wouldn't be our favourite team without their infamous meltdowns; second periods are their speciality. Six minutes into the period, the Sens season was summarized in one single play. After an extended shift in the Ottawa zone, a tired Flyers team (Giroux) decided to keep the play going against an exhausted and inefficient Sens team. What happened next was so great, I may have laughed a little. Boedker fails on TWO easy clears to which the Flyers then have to face the mighty Mark Borowiecki who lets the puck slip between his skates. Then he proceeds to try and salvage the situation by somehow allowing Patrick to swipe the puck to an unchallenged Raffle who of course makes it 2-1. Glorious, just glorious. I don’t even think I fairly described it so here you go with the visual.

The Sens get a power play where the only noticeable play was by Tkachuk. Things just got worse from that point with the Sens taking two penalties - one by Borowiecki who was having a fantastic game. At least Chabot was looking to be in fine form.

As the period was winding down; a bit of miscommunication by the Sens results in a perfect shot to make it 3-1 Flyers.

They really want that top-15 draft pick!

Once again, the Sens get a penalty early on in the third period. Not only did they not score, but they actually negated it as Chlapik took a blatant penalty to end the man advantage.

The Flyers continued to dominate but the Sens were certainly having a better period. With three minutes left, Chlapik gets a laser shot past Elliott to make it 3-2. COMEBACK? COMEBACK?

Nope.

The Sens spent the last 2 minutes of the game on the penalty kill and dropped yet another game.

Shots at the end of the game were 36-22.

Notable Performances:

  • Chris Tierney: I still feel he’s extremely underrated. He had the first goal of the game but was also a solid presence throughout the game.
  • Thomas Chabot: he deserves better than this.
  • Craig Anderson: he was a huge reason this was only a 1-goal game.
  • Brady Tkachuk: this kid, he’s going to do great things.... probably on some other team./
