Andy Sutton pulled over by a cop. A new screenplay by Darren McLeod
FADE IN:
EXT. HIGHWAY, PITTSBURGH, PA - NIGHT
A red sports car cruises down the highway at 100 km/h. A COP checks his radar gun -- it says 100 km/h, but a smudge on the screen makes it appear to say 110km/h. The Cop turns on his car's lights and siren, and begins to pursue the red car.
The red car pulls over to the side of the road. The cop car pulls up behind it. A few minutes pass. The Cop gets out of his car, and approaches the red sports car. He knocks on the red sports car's window.
The window rolls down, revealing Ottawa Senators defenseman ANDY SUTTON, on his way home from a 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He's still rattled after being interrogated by a Pittsburgh reporter after the game.
Do you realize you were speeding?
Are you asking me, or are you telling me?
COP
No, I'm asking you.
ANDY SUTTON
You're an expert?
COP
No, it was on the radar gun.
ANDY SUTTON
So you're an expert?
COP
No, it was on the radar gun.
ANDY SUTTON
So you saw it, you're saying you saw it, you're an expert?
The Cop pauses momentarily, debating whether to take this conversation further.
COP
Yes.
ANDY SUTTON
You're not an expert.
COP
I saw it. I'm asking if you knew you were speeding.
ANDY SUTTON
You're telling me I was speeding?
COP
It was on the radar gun.
ANDY SUTTON
So you're an expert. You know I was speeding.
The passenger side door opens, and out comes PHIL LEGAULT.
PHIL LEGAULT
That's it, guy. Thank you.
Phil Legault directs Andy Sutton away from the Cop. They carefully drive off at 95 km/h down the highway.
