A look at new Senators prospect Wacey Hamilton

On Tuesday evening, the Ottawa Senators announced they've signed WHL overage forward Wacey Hamilton to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Hamilton was first draft-eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, but was likely passed over because he only played 37 games the year previous (I assume due to injury, although I'm not sure), and even in that time didn't put up good numbers. In the two years since then, he's put up 71 and then 72 points, while also getting triple-digits in PIM.

At the start of this season, Hamilton was invited to training camp with the Colorado Avalanche, but was among the first cuts from camp. According to Mile High Hockey, he was a "nasty S.O.B." in some early intra-squad games, which probably isn't a bad thing at all.

What can we expect from Hamilton? Tough to say at this point, really. Although not a big kid--most sources say he's six feet and 177 pounds--he plays a very rough style, and according to the video below, is another guy who idolizes Mike Richards. (Also making an appearance in the below video: Medicine at Tigers coach Shaun Clouston, who looks nothing like his brother Cory but sounds nearly identical.)

Right now, he's 30th in WHL scoring and eighth in assists. Next year, although he might turn some heads in training camp, it's likely Hamilton will play on the AHL's Binghamton Senators.

Add Hamilton to the list of undrafted players Bryan Murray's brought in to Ottawa, which includes Jesse Winchester and Bobby Butler. And with college seasons ending soon, I have a feeling Murray's still got some more shopping to do this year.
