Dorion has been the GM of the Senators since 2016, and the Senators have been a rebuilding team for much of his five-year tenure, with a record of 153-180-43. Despite the overall lack of on-ice success, the team’s 10-3-1 record to end the 2020-21 season could be a sign that the young team is turning a corner, and signs point to his hiring of D.J. Smith as the team’s head coach being a smart decision.
A playoff spot should be on the radar this season, though Dorion likely isn’t under a ton of pressure to qualify just yet. Two years from now, however, if the Senators have yet to reach the postseason, I’d expect there to be some serious heat on the GM’s seat.
