Weekly Question: Senators Would-You-Rathers

“Would you rather”, according to Wikpedia, is a conversation or party game that poses a dilemma in the form of a question beginning with “would you rather”, then presents two options which are both good, attractive, or bad. Since we’re in a brief lull before hockey picks up again in earnest, I thought it might be fun to do some unimportant would-you-rathers related to the Ottawa Senators. If you have any great ideas on top of mine, share them in the comments!

Tkachuk Contract

As we all know, Brady Tkachuk is awaiting a new contract. We mostly anticipate a bridge deal, while cautiously hoping for a long-term deal, and also expect he’ll get the captaincy. But what if it was a bridge deal + the captaincy, or a long-term deal + a frustrating captain?

Goaltending Now or Later

We all know Matt Murray has had a great start to his career, and has really fallen off a cliff. He put together a handful of good games last season, but was mostly disappointing. Filip Gustavsson was likely the big standout, cementing himself in our minds the strongest since he was first acquired from the Penguins. So the question is, would you rather Murray turn it around, but Gus struggle, or would you rather the best goalie prospect in the Sens’ system flame out but Murray turns into an above average starter?

GM Nightmares

Pierre Dorion doesn’t yet have an extension, and possibly Pierre McGuire is waiting in the wings to take his job if this team really falters. Some might worry about that, but it could be way worse. Here’s a terrible pair of options if Dorion gets fired:

NoDak Sens

We all know that many prospects don’t live up to their hype, but we keep hoping they all do. The Sens have had several players out of North Dakota recently, including two who joined for the end of last season in Jacob Bernard-Docker and Shane Pinto. What if you could only pick one of them to make it as an NHLer? On the one hand, the Sens are threadbare on the right side at D, but on the other hand, genuine top-six NHL centres are worth their weight in platinum.

Hated Jerseys

The Sens have had their fair share of hits and misses of jerseys along the way. Two really stick out to me among the hated jerseys: the so-called SNES jersey, and the Senagoth (pictured below in that respective order). If the Sens decided to make one of them the permanent third jersey for this upcoming season, which would you dislike less?
