DJ Smith is entering his final year of his contract and the Ottawa Senators management seem to have liked what they’ve seen so far. This extension will definitely give Smith some confidence going into some critical years of this franchise and not coaching to get an extension will result in much better decisions. Opinions on Smith are mixed, but he’s learned to trust the kids more and that will bode well for the future success of the team
