The Lightning advance, and the Golden Knights push the Avalanche to the brink of elimination!

Yesterday’s Games:

Tampa Bay Lightning 2, Carolina Hurricanes 0 (Tampa Bay wins 4-1)

After an unusually high-scoring game 4, the Bolts and Canes were back to their normal low-scoring selves for what would end up being the final game of their series.

Play was fairly even, with Carolina having the edge in scoring chances but Tampa Bay mostly looking like the better team. Brayden Point scored the first goal at the beginning of the second period, and Stamkos almost doubled the Lightning’s lead right at the end of the frame, but after review it was decided that the buzzer had sounded before the puck had crossed the line. Tampa made the score 2-0 for real about halfway through the third. The most noteworthy thing to happen after that was a direct hit to the head by Ondrej Palat against Brett Pesce that somehow only resulted in a 2 minute penalty. Time ran out, and the Lightning became the second team to advance to the semifinals. They’ll face the winner of Bruins vs Islanders, which could be decided tonight, unless the Bruins force a game seven. Stats here.

Vegas Golden Knights 3, Colorado Avalanche 2 (Vegas leads 3-2)

The Avalanche were looking to get back into this series after blowing a 2-0 series lead to Vegas. While they were very clearly the better team all throughout the game, Colorado unfortunately ran into a few problems - namely, Marc-Andre Fleury and some guy called Mark Stone.

Colorado scored the first goal just as time ran out in the first period, and took a 2-0 lead in the second. Vegas evened the score in the third, though, and the Captain won the game just 50 seconds into the first overtime. The Knights will have a chance to clinch the series on home ice tomorrow, with the winner of this series facing the Montreal Canadiens. Stats here.

Tonight’s Game:

Boston Bruins @ New York Islanders - 7:30PM ET (NBCSN, CBC) NYI leads series 3-2
