Which Departure Story Would You Reverse?

I know what you’re all thinking, is this another Erik Karlsson vs Mark Stone poll? It isn’t, at least not entirely.

The past few seasons have been tough on any Sens fans, it seems every season at least one of our favourite players was traded. What unites us now is that we all have jerseys that are irrelevant or player departures that broke our hearts (I still ache over Nick Foligno). That being said, the player who shocked us and remains to bring much pain upon us all has to be Daniel Alfredsson. You can say all you want about the recent trades but does anything really compare to letting Alfredsson sign with a rival team?

Next came Jason Spezza who was one of the most controversial players on the team, you either hated him or loved him. The truth is, the Sens haven’t really had a center of his caliber since he left and unless we draft Quinton Byfield, I don’t see someone filling his shoes in the near future. The problem with the Spezza trade is that it also signaled that the Sens can no longer honour their stars with two of the biggest names leaving the team two years in a row. Of course, there was also Mike Fisher, Chris Kelly and many more but we moved on from them all.

Things settled for a while after then came the flurry that started with the Kyle Turris trade and the arrival of Matt Duchene. Will we finally have the elite center we had hoped for the past few years? Not only did things not go well, the team went into disaster mode and hasn’t recovered since.

Then came the hurricane that saw an Erik Karlsson, Mark Stone and Matt Duchene traded all within a few months. Every move destroyed the franchise and the fan base even further but which one truly did the most damage? Which horrible mistake would you take back in a heartbeat? Was it letting our franchise lord walk away over a financial dispute or was it letting an elite franchise changing defenceman be traded over yet another petty financial disagreement? Was Mark Stone the final straw or by that stage were most of us past the point of caring.

The question for this week is, which player’s departure truly made the deepest impact on the team?
