Wolanin Re-Signed for 2 Years

The 2-way deal turns 1-way in the second year

Marc Methot was co-hosting the midday show on TSN1200 today, with a promise to use his contacts to try to get some insider information to share, and he came through with the news of a two year Christian Wolanin extension that was 2-way for the first year, moving to 1-way in the second year.

The official release came about 10 minutes later, adding in the salary details. Wolanin’s extension will carry a cap hit of $900k, with the salary starting at $800k in the NHL for year one and moving to $1m in year two.

Wolanin has five goals and 10 assists in 40 NHL games so far, and seven goals and 24 assists in his 40 games with Belleville. For the team’s shot rates he had a positive impact on both for and against when he was on the ice, with an even split between offensive and defensive deployment. He’ll mostly be playing with new partners while up with Ottawa this season, as he played almost two thirds of his time with either Cody Ceci (244 minutes) or Ben Harpur (48 minutes). He did have nearly 100 minutes with Dylan DeMelo however, with some promising underlying numbers shown by the pairing.

Welcome back, Christian!
