The Ottawa Senators have re-signed defenceman Cody Goloubef to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal is worth $700K at the NHL level, and $425K in Belleville.

Acquired from the Boston Bruins for Paul Carey on January 11th, the Canadian Olympic Bronze Medalist only suited up for five games in Ottawa this season, but turned in a solid AHL performance. Goloubef tallied 12 points, and a +15 rating in 30 games with the B-Sens, helping them on their improbable run that fell just short of a playoff appearance.

The deal provides Ottawa with some much-needed depth, as right-shot defenceman are few and far between in the organization.

Speaking of right-shot, AHL dmen, Stefan Elliott has elected to return to the KHL, signing with Dynamo Minsk.

Elliott, who was Goloubef’s Olympic teammate, appeared in three games with the big club this year. He also tallied 28 points in 64 games between Wilkes-Barre and Belleville, respectively. The 28 year-old was acquired from Pittsburgh on December 5th, 2018, along with Tobias Lindberg, in exchange for Ben Sexton and Macoy Erkamps.

With a young core in the NHL, and Cody Ceci’s future uncertain (ugh), the Senators need all the depth that they can get on defence. Here’s to hoping other, more significant moves are made.
