Bobby Ryan Enters NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program
He will be away from the team indefinitely.
It was announced, today, by the NHL and NHLPA that Ottawa Senators forward Bobby Ryan will be entering the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program. In doing so, he will be stepping away from the team, effective immediately. There is no timetable for his return.
The program is a broad-sweeping initiative by the league and the PA, to assist any players going through any number of personal struggles. It would be pointless, and frankly inappropriate, to speculate on what Bobby is dealing with at this time.
On the ice, Ryan has been the subject of media attention this season, having to fight for playing time for the first time in his career. Head coach DJ Smith has been vocal in his criticisms of Ryan’s play. He didn’t play last night, reportedly not feeling well.
