Who is your favourite NHL commentator?

I thought it would be a fun exercise to see who is everybody's favourite commentator. This can be a current one or your all-time favourite. Why are they your favourite? Do you also have a favourite colour commentator? Or a favourite commentating duo?

As Sens fans, we tend to hear a lot of different commentators throughout the season. On TSN we get Gord Miller, plus the odd game from Chris Cuthbert and Brian Mudryk. Not to mention a slew of colour commentators like Jamie McLennan, Ray Ferraro, Mike Johnson etc. On any given HNIC, it's basically a toss up ranging from Paul Romanuk to Jim Hughson. And on the radio we have Dean Brown.

I'll get us started with my favourites/least favourites:

  • Personally I always liked Dean Brown. He's always on top of the play and he mixes in some funny sarcasm while still remaining respectful to both teams (plus the legendary "scramBLEEEEEEEEEE). I wish he was still doing TV broadcasts.
  • Bob Cole is also someone I liked. I found his voice exciting when there were chances at each end of the rink, and it would provide some comedy relief when he got people's names wrong.
  • I'm ok with all the TSN TV commentators. Ray Ferraro is probably my favourite colour guy.
  • I'm not a big fan of Jim Hughson. He seems to receive such high praise but personally I find his game calls to be quite boring actually (not to mention he is a bit biased towards the Leafs, but that's a discussion for another day).
Drop your favourites/least favourites in the comments!
