Best FanPost of 2018: Reader Vote

Help us pick the winner for the first half of the season

So way back in October, we announced a new competition to encourage more FanPosting on the site. The response has been great — it’s been wonderful to get a variety of opinions from the community, and most of the FanPosts have been put on the homepage to increase engagement. As part of that announcement, we also promised a prize for FanPost of the Year. So as part of that, we need to decide the best FanPost of the 2018 portion of the season. Below you’ll find a list of the highest-engagment (in terms of either comments or pageviews) FanPosts of the year. Look back through them, and vote at the bottom to determine our challenger for FanPost of the Year!

Why the Erik Karlsson trade could be one of the best in franchise history, by freshprinceof4thline

This is the most recent qualifying FanPost, and it really got people going in the comments. Lots agreed with his logical approach to looking at the individual pieces, while others disagreed, citing Erik Karlsson’s great underlying stats so far this season. Either way, taking the less-argued side of a controversial topic is worth a nod.

If you could wish for any one thing to give the Ottawa Senators for Christmas, by Fisher’s Man Friend

FMF looks through a few things Sens fans could want, and asks you which one you’d most want. Giving a list that includes more options than “Melnyk’s out of our lives forever” took quite a bit of analysis.

My optimism is being rewarded, by Righteous637

Things may be bleaker now, but back in late October, things were looking pretty good. This article talked about the better-than-expected play of new acquisitions Dylan DeMelo, Chris Tierney, and Mikkel Boedker.

The Senators Will Win the Cup This Year, by fresprinceof4thline

A bit of a misleading title leads into a good look at the fact that the Belleville Senators actually had a decent roster on paper after eliminating the career AHLers from last year and installing a new coach. It generated a lot of discussion around what people expected from the young pro players.

Improving the Intermission Experience, by SensForLife11

The Twitter-famous @BringBackLee looks at what they currently do during Sens game intermissions, and then makes some suggestions of his own. With the Sens trying to improve fan engagement, finding ways to engage them when hockey isn’t happening at games seems like a great idea.

Rant (sort of): Mike Hoffman and his goal celebration, by theODDyssey

Hoffman scored the late winner against the Sens, and then decided to pull out a big celly in front of the Sens’ bunch. theODDyssey goes off on why that was bothersome.

15 thoughts about where the Sens stood a quarter of the way through the season, including the emergence of Colin White and the continued dependence on Mark Stone and Matt Duchene.
