Sterling Predictions: Points Leader

With Karlsson gone, it’s time for a new team points leader

Who will lead the Senators in points? (And yes, you can pick a player who won’t be with the team at the end of the year, provided you expect them to have scored the most points for the Senators of any player this year)

Spencer: I think Mark Stone will lead the Senators in points because he’ll still be with the team after the deadline and uh... some others probably won’t. He’s going to play a full, healthy season and put up 80 points.

Ary: Mark Stone, with 65.

B_T: Mark Stone, though Duchene could pass him if Stone is traded and Duchene isn’t.

NKB: Because I’m a glutton for punishment, I’m going to say Mark Stone will lead the team with 75 points in 74 games because he’s going to sign a long-term extension in January.

Colin: Mark Stone had one of the quietest point-per-game seasons in recent memory (along with Mikko Rantanen also last season). Even if he gets traded around the trade deadline, I can’t see anyone else catching him. He creates offence out of thin air.

Beata: This is the first time I’ve actually had to think about this and that makes me very sad, but I’ll say Stone because even if he gets traded at the deadline nobody is going to overtake him.

Brandon: Mark Stone. Next question.

Dewie: I’m torn between Stone and Duchene because I feel they both want to prove something. I’m going to go with Duchene only because I feel like he truly doesn’t want another season to go to waste. I would say 75 points for Duchene and 74 for Stone.

Ross: This is a really weird thing to think about, because there are no obvious candidates. I expect Stone and Duchene to both be gone by the deadline. The next most obvious candidate would be Jean-Gabriel Pageau, but he’s out for six months. The Sens’ top six wingers are generally washed up and I’m hard-pressed to see Bobby Ryan or Mikkel Boedker (or Marian Gaborik, remember him?) surpassing 40 points. So then it’s a question of if you think a “veteran” like Ryan Dzingel or Chris Tierney, a defenceman like Thomas Chabot or 40-minutes-per-night Cody Ceci, or a rookie will take the crown. Or if you think Stone or Duchene will be around long enough to lead the team in points. So I’m gonna be wild and say Brady Tkachuk leads this team with 45 points, and even gets a few third-place Calder votes.
