Preview and Open Thread: Ottawa Senators @ Toronto Maple Leafs

Hockeyville host Lucan excited for NHL game in newly renovated arena

The dreadful off-season is finally over opening way to a season where things could get potentially much worse than they are now. Ironically, the season starts against the Leafs who have become the newly minted Stanley Cup favourites. Lucan, ON, the winners of the Kraft Hockeyville competition, will be hosting the game which is always a fun event for the local fans. Both rosters boast more than a few London, ON locals and former London Knights players as Lucan is only a 30 minute drive from London and these players are probably very familiar to the local fans. In particular, new Senator Dylan DeMelo is very excited to be part of the game and has mentioned that he’s been following up on the arena upgrades before he had gone back to San Jose.

I won’t lie, I’m actually excited for some hockey action even if it’s just pre-season. It will be nice to take our minds off the Dorion/Melnyk saga with some on-ice analysis for a change and hopefully a nice meaningless win against the mighty Leafs.

The game will be broadcast on Sportsnet and TSN 1200 (TSN 1050 for fans in Toronto) scheduled for a 7:30 start.

The Ottawa Senators roster will feature new members Mikkel Boedker and Dylan DeMelo as well as exciting prospects Drake Batherson, Alex Formenton, Logan Brown and Filip Gustavsson. The full roster can be found here:

On the opposing side, the Leafs will be showcasing their most precious acquisition and former London Knights star, John Tavares alongside his former Knights teammate and London local Nazem Kadri. The full roster, which doesn’t include Auston Matthews, can be found here:

Not real hockey yet but still some on-ice action to get us all hyped up for the upcoming disastrous season. Are you all ready for your Karlsson-less years?
