Gaborik Still Not Cleared

With the Ottawa Senators’ 2018-2019 training camp due to start Thursday, the club will be without one of last season’s veteran acquisitions.

Marian Gaborik, whose 2017-2018 season ended prematurely due to a back surgery, has still not been medically cleared to return to the ice.

First reported by the Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch this evening, Senators GM Pierre Dorion revealed that Gaborik is still in Los Angeles seeing a back specialist, and that the team can offer no timetable on his return. If, in fact, Gaborik can return at all.

The 36 year-old has played in 1035 NHL games with the Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Los Angeles Kings and Ottawa Senators, logging 815 points.

The longer it takes Gaborik to get cleared, the more likely it seems that the forward will join Clarke MacArthur on the Sens’ Long-Term Injured Reserve, with his future shrouded in doubt.

Gaborik has three years left on his contract.
