Senators extend Nick Paul

Ottawa Senators agree to terms on a one year, two way deal with AHL C Nick Paul

After a welcomed quiet few weeks for the Ottawa Senators, the organization announced a contract extension for centre Nick Paul. The contract is a two-way deal, for one-year, paying  $650k at the NHL level and $80k at the AHL level.

The Mississauga native was one of the main pieces acquired in the Jason Spezza trade in 2015. He’s since played 36 NHL games across three seasons, totalling six points. Last season, Paul suited up for Belleville for 54 games and was a late season contributor, ending the season with 12 points in his final 14 games.

Given how the last few seasons have gone, and the short length of this contract, it’s reasonable to expect this to be Paul’s final chance to crack the NHL roster. It’s likely he’ll spend much of this season with Belleville where he’ll have to be at the top of his game to earn a call up when the time comes.
