Johnny Oduya Claimed Off Waivers

Oduya is now a Flyer, while Burrows and O’Brien clear

After yesterday’s waiver and signing news, Johnny Oduya is no longer an Ottawa Senator after being claimed by the Philadelphia Flyers. It’s unfortunate they were not able to get anything in return for him, but still better to clear up a space on the blue line than have him play out his contract. Oduya has up to $1m in performance bonuses remaining, $250k each for 65 games played, making the playoffs, top 5 in TOI for defensemen and top 3 in TOI for defesemen. It’s unclear how the TOI based bonus targets will work across multiple teams.

Meanwhile, both Alexandre Burrows and Jim O’Brien cleared waivers. Burrows has yet to be re-assigned to Belleville, though he also has one game remaining on his 10-game suspension. O’Brien was already with Belleville on an AHL contract, but can now be called up to Ottawa if necessary.
