Game 39 Preview: San Jose Sharks @ Ottawa Senators

New, comments

A rematch of one of the many 5-0 losses on the season

NHL: Ottawa Senators at San Jose Sharks Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

If you’re on Team Tank, then the Senators nearly messed up on Wednesday, somehow getting to overtime against the Red Wings. If you’re still cheering for the playoffs, then the Sens messed up even more and only Craig Anderson saved them from complete embarrassment. Either way, nobody’s happy. Here’s hoping you get what you wish for against the Sharks tonight. I’m hoping it’s just not as bad as the 5-0 loss earlier in the season.

Guy Boucher has confirmed that Zack Smith returns tonight (Filip Chlapik was returned to Binghamton Belleville) while Ben Harpur will draw in for Fredrik Claesson, because why not? Craig Anderson will start. Here’s my guess at the lines:

Hoffman - Duchene - Ryan
Dzingel - Brassard - Stone
Pyatt - Pageau - Smith
Dumont - Thompson - Burrows

Oduya - Karlsson
Phaneuf - Ceci
Harpur - Chabot

Anderson (starter)
Condon

Some thoughts:

  • Nobody had a great game last game, did they? Oh, except Craig Anderson. We’ll see if a goalie can put together two good games in a row for seemingly the first time all season.
  • Ryan Dzingel got into a fight last time these teams met. He scored a goal last game. What will we see from him tonight?
  • The Sens have been shut out 7 times this season, twice on the California trip. They’ve lost 5-0 three times, once to these Sharks
  • Fredrik Claesson is a scratch again - my prediction he gets traded seems to be becoming more and more likely
  • Not sure why Burrows, Thompson, Pyatt, and especially Gabriel Dumont need to be in the lineup whenever they’re healthy, but they are. Gotta send down the guys like Chris DiDomenico, Nick Paul, and Filip Chlapik to make way for them
  • Will Drake Batherson get another hat-trick in the World Juniors, this time in the finals? Probably a lot of Ottawa will be watching that game instead of this one.
