Drake Batherson Traded to Blainville-Boisbriand Armada
The Sens prospect will be getting a change of scenery following the World Juniors.
Only a couple hours after scoring twice in Team Canada’s 8-2 quarter-final win over Switzerland, news broke that Sens prospect Drake Batherson will be traded to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada following the World Junior Championships. Other details from the trade have yet to be revealed.
Batherson, a 19-year-old forward, was drafted by the Ottawa Senators 121st overall in the 2017 draft as an overager. He’s since been one of the highest risers in the draft, breaking out for 39 points in 24 games. He earned an invite to play for Team Canada at the World Juniors, where he currently leads the team with four goals in five games. He leaves the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 33rd in franchise scoring, one point shy of 100 at 99.
He’ll be joining a strong Blainville-Boisbriand team, who currently sit atop the QMJHL standings with a record of 35-8-2. They possess the league’s current leading scorer, 20-year-old Alex Barré-Boulet, who like Batherson plays centre (although Batherson’s been playing right wing at the World Juniors).
With CHL trade deadlines in place for early January, expect more trade talks to heat up in the next week.
