Ottawa Senators Re-Sign Max McCormick
The two year contract will carry an AAV of $650,000
With unrestricted free agency looming in a matter of days, the Ottawa Senators have re-signed forward Max McCormick for two more years, at an average annual value of $650,000.
McCormick, a Sens’ 6th round pick from 2011, has played for the Binghamton Senators for the last three seasons, while also getting called up for 27 NHL games. Earning the Hardest Working Player award at the 2015 development camp, he’s served as an extremely high-energy forward while occasionally finding the scoresheet. In 2016-17, he reached 20 goals in the AHL for the first time in his career, while also setting a career-high in points (36).
The contract structure is a bit complicated, as it’s a two-way deal in the first year, and transitions to a one-way contract in the second year. The first season will carry an AHL salary of $200,000, although it includes a guarantee of $250,000. This is likely a sign that management will be attempting to transition McCormick to a full-time NHL role in the coming years, as Chris Neil’s departure has left the Sens without a similar type of player to immediately play 2017-18.
