Senators Select Shane Bowers 28th Overall

With their first-round draft pick, the Ottawa Senators have selected centre Shane Bowers.

Waterloo Black Hawks centre Shane Bowers is the newest Ottawa Senator.

With the 28th pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, the Senators decided to take the 6-foot-1 Halifax native.

Bower’s hometown is a bit significant in that he trains in the summer with Sidney Crosby and a few other NHLers. He apparently passed up an opportunity to play for a couple more local junior teams when making the decision to go to Waterloo.

Playing in the USHL, Bowers had 22 goals and 29 assists in 60 games this season. He went scoreless in five matches with Canada’s U-17 team. He has committed to Boston University for next season.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie had the 17-year-old 32nd in his pre-draft rankings.
