Ottawa Senators Ups and Downs: Week 23

New, comments

It wasn’t a great week results-wise

NHL: Ottawa Senators at Montreal Canadiens Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

It wasn’t a great for the Senators, as they rattled off four-straight losses to make up for the six-game winning streak they brought into it. To be fair, they were all against good teams (Lightning, Blackhawks, Canadiens x2), and only one loss was by more than one goal. It’s not all doom and gloom. And that’s reflected in the rankings, in which most people were just kept neutral.

Biggest Gains: Mike Condon

He put up pretty great numbers against the league’s hottest team (Chicago), as well as the upsurging Lightning. It’s good to know the Sens have a backup who can hold them in games when they need him to.

Biggest Losses: Ryan Dzingel

He put up a goal this week, but it only seemed to draw attention to the fact that he only has two points in his last 15 games. I was hoping last week that his goal would open the floodgates, but so far it hasn’t.

Ups and Downs:

Player Trend Notes
Player Trend Notes
Goaltenders
Craig Anderson Good news: his injury wasn't long-term. Bad news: he didn't have the best weekend.
Mike Condon See Biggest Gains
Chris Driedger Didn't get to play. Probably won't get to play for the big Sens at this point
Defensemen
Mark Borowiecki Almost lost his spot to Claesson, but a losing streak put him back in the lineup
Cody Ceci Pretty good week actually for a guy I've been hard on all season
Fredrik Claesson Went two games without a point, got scratched again
Erik Karlsson Three points, but he looked a little tired as the week went on
Marc Methot A rare point this week!
Dion Phaneuf Possession-wise, he actually had a great week. That surprises me.
Chris Wideman Up and down week for him. At least he's pretty much guaranteed a roster spot now.
Forwards
Derick Brassard He probably misses Stone the most of anyone on the team
Alexandre Burrows He's not scoring a goal every game anymore, but he's still doing well
Ryan Dzingel See Biggest Losses
Mike Hoffman Three points in four games, but he hasn't transformed the third line
Chris Kelly He fought this week!
Clarke MacArthur + He's been practising lately, but I sure hope he doesn't wreck his future
Chris Neil + No word on his injury as of late
Jean-Gabriel Pageau He's hardly been standing out
Tom Pyatt Mediocre week for him too
Bobby Ryan His return from injury was... OK.
Zack Smith Possession-wise he still had a really good week
Viktor Stålberg Average week for a decent player
