Ottawa Senators Recall Filip Chlapik and Jack Rodewald

The two forwards have combined for seven points in twelve games on Belleville.

With Logan Brown being sent back to the OHL earlier today, the Ottawa Senators have recalled two additional forwards from Belleville: centre Filip Chlapik and winger Jack Rodewald. Assuming the trio of Colin White, Zack Smith and Kyle Turris are not ready to go for tomorrow’s home game against Philadelphia, that leaves the Sens with thirteen healthy forwards on the main roster.

Chlapik, the Sens’ 2nd round pick in 2015, has been dynamite in the AHL despite struggling to find the score sheet. Spencer had all positive reviews for the 20-year-old from the past week, building off an impressive training camp in his first pro season. He currently has three assists in seven games as well as 16 shots on goal (second highest on Belleville). This comes after a dominant 2016-17, where he led the QMJHL in points per game (minimum 40 GP).

As for Rodewald, he wasn’t even eligible to be called up until yesterday, when he signed a two year entry-level contract. His four points in five games is third on Belleville, and highest amongst remaining players eligible to be called up (DiDomenico already on the main roster, Ethan Werek on an AHL contract). After starting 2016-17 in the ECHL, his dominant play earned him a call-up to the AHL where he burst onto the scene with his goal scoring prowess. His ridiculous shooting percentage came back to earth later in the season, finishing with a still-impressive 18 goals and 27 points in 66 games.

With Max McCormick and Chris DiDomenico already on the roster, Ottawa’s forward depth has become thin very quickly. The Sens have a back-to-back starting tomorrow, first against the Flyers (5-4-0) and then travelling to New Jersey to face the Devils (6-2-0). The Belleville Senators are currently at the tail end of a nine game road trip to start the season, facing the Manitoba Moose twice on Friday and Saturday before playing the home opener on November 1st.
