Senators Sign Prospect Filip Chlapik to ELC

The Ottawa Senators have signed forward prospect Filip Chlapik to a three-year entry-level deal.

The Senators announced this morning that the organization has agreed to terms with forward prospect Filip Chlapik on a three-year entry-level contract.

Chlapik was in Ottawa last night playing in an exhibition game against Team Canada for his home country of Czech Republic.

The 19-year-old is currently in his third season with the Charlottetown Islanders in the QMJHL. Having played far fewer games than the leaders, he sits ninth in league scoring with 20 goals and 24 assists, but boasts the best points per game with 1.69.

After a rather poor sophomore season in the QMJHL, the Senators challenged their 48th overall selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft to have a big summer and come back better than ever. And he did just that.

Chlapik worked harder than he ever had in the offseason and it’s paying off now.

Senators fans will get a chance to see the youngster in action on national television when the World Junior Championships begin on Boxing Day. Chlapik and the Czechs begin their tournament against Finland at 5 p.m. ET. You can catch that one on TSN 3 and 5.
