The NHL’s Department of Player Safety has awarded Mark Borowiecki a two-game suspension for his hit on Tyler Toffoli.

The Senators defenseman received a five-minute major for the hit - which led to two Kings goals on the ensuing power play - but no misconduct.

Toffoli would return after first heading to the locker room.

The DoPS determined that “with sufficient time to avoid or minimize the hit, Borowiecki instead (hit) forcefully through Toffoli’s numbers, driving him dangerously into the glass.”

This is the first suspension for the 27-year-old. Borowiecki had no previous history of suspensions, hearings or fines in the league.

It’s expected that Andreas Englund will jump into Borowiecki’s place in the lineup, playing alongside Chris Wideman against the Anaheim Ducks today at 4 p.m. and on Wednesday versus the San Jose Sharks at home.
