Senators Place Phil Varone on Waivers

The Ottawa Senators have put forward Phil Varone on waivers for the purpose of reassignment to Binghamton.

The Ottawa Senators have placed Phil Varone on waivers.

As the Senators head off on their West Coast road trip, Clarke MacArthur may be joining them, but Varone will not. If he clears waivers by noon tomorrow, the 25-year-old will be assigned to Ottawa’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton.

After leading the Eastern Conference scoring race during the preseason, Varone had no such luck in the regular season, failing to record a point in the three games he played. Of course, his ice time decreased when the Senators had their NHL team formed, but nonetheless, Varone couldn’t do enough to stay with the big club.

The Vaughn, Ontario, native joins Binghamton as one of their top forwards, while the club has started their 2016-17 campaign with a record of 1-1-1.
